Dry Valley of the University of Technology: Teach you how to choose a home charging pile that suits you

2024-1-19

By the end of 2023, the number of new energy vehicles will reach 20.41 million, with 7.43 million new registrations throughout the year."Buy a car and get a pile"Gradually becoming history, many new energy car owners need to purchase charging piles by themselves. Compared with the relatively high-priced "original" charging piles, many car owners have also begun to pay attention to "original" charging piles such as "University of Technology Inaya"Waiting for third-party platforms. But new questions are also coming. In terms of charging power alone, there are three options: 7kW, 11kW, and 21kW. So, do you know which one is suitable for your car? Today, I will teach you how to choose a suitable home charging pile~

Learn about new energy vehicles first

Charging power determines the charging speed, but different new energy vehicles support different charging powers. Therefore, when choosing a home charging pile, you should first have a general understanding of your car. Generally speaking, our new energy vehicles often have two charging interfaces, one is an AC charging interface (seven holes), and the other is a DC charging interface (nine holes). The household charging piles referred to here mainly refer to AC charging piles.

The AC charging pile actually has no charging function. It is just a power supply device that provides power to the on-board charger inside the car. What actually charges the car is the car charger, and the rated power of the car charger really determines the charging speed of a car. Therefore, the maximum charging power that new energy vehicles can accept is not determined by the power at the pile end, but is limited by the parameters of the on-board charger.

There are two types of alternating current: single-phase 220V and three-phase 380V. The recommended current value is 16A/32A. It is also stipulated that the current for single-phase charging shall not exceed 32A. Therefore, the maximum charging power of 220V single-phase electricity is 7kw (220Vx32A), while the minimum charging power of three-phase electricity is about 11kW (220Vx16Ax3). If the on-board charger only supports 22V single-phase power, even if an 11kw charging pile is installed, it can only obtain 3.5kw charging power (220Vx16A), which is not as fast as the 7kW charging pile.

After understanding the difference between the car end and the pile end, it will be easy to understand. Different vehicle charger specifications have different applicable voltage platforms. For a charging power of 7kW, just apply for a 220V meter. Charging power of 11kW and above requires the installation of a 380V meter.

After understanding the difference between car ends, let's look at pile ends. Different vehicle charger specifications have different applicable voltage platforms. For a charging power of 7kw, just apply for a 220V meter. Charging power of 11kW and above requires the installation of a 380V meter.
However, due to different power policies in various places, not every community can apply for a 380V meter. Car owners need to communicate with the local power supply bureau and the community property management in advance to confirm. If conditions permit, it is recommended that you apply for a 380V meter first.

Seeing this, some car owners must be confused: "Didn't you just say that if the on-board charger only supports single-phase power, it can only get 3.5kW of power with 11kW? Why do you then recommend applying for a 380V meter?"

ThatThe actual reason is very simple. Although the minimum charging power of three-phase electricity is 11kW and can only be compatible with 3.5kW, the maximum charging power can reach 21kW (220V×32A×3). It can be backward compatible with 11kW, 7kW and 3.5kW power, and is basically suitable for all national standard models on the market.

This should be the choice

When purchasing a third-party charging pile, in addition to choosing the right power, the brand of the charging pile is also very important.A good brand means better product quality, smarter product functions, and better after-sales service.Don’t blindly pursue “low prices” and ignore the possible hidden dangers behind them.

It is recommended to choose a third-party brand with independent R&D and production capabilities and a complete after-sales guarantee system. At the same time, even when the power is the same, third-party brand charging piles are different in terms of functionality and quality.
